New Year, New Habits

We’ve all heard it, the New Year means a new you! But the only thing that won’t be new this year is our planet. To help you start your 2019 sustainably, we’ve put together a list of our favourite ways you can reduce your environmental impact.

1)Veganuary – Of course! Throughout the festive season we all tend to indulge, especially when it comes to the Christmas meal. Veganuary encourages those with a meat-based diet, to switch it up and try a diet that is plant-based. Last year Veganuary broke records with 168,542 people taking part, and this year it’s going to be even bigger. Not only is Veganuary a great way to help you boost your health after the indulgent festivities, giving up meat is one of the best things you can do for the planet. It significantly reduces your carbon footprint, as agriculture produces  nearly a third of all greenhouse gas emissions and is a significant driver of deforestation, environmental degradation and pollution. Not to mention animal welfare.

2)Cycle to work – A great way for you to meet your health and fitness goals this year, while increasing your well-being, is by cycling to work. Travelling to work by bike is fast, free and good for you and the planet! Particularly when road transport equates to about a third of UK nitrogen oxide and particulate matter, which are some of the most harmful pollutants!

3)Go reusable – Help fight the plastic problem and ditch the single use plastics! These are plastic items designed to be used just once, and then are thrown away. As a result single use plastics such as plastic bags, cutlery and straws make up a vast proportion of plastic waste. Get started and invest in a reusable water bottle and coffee cup, helping to prevent the UK from throwing away 2.5 billion coffee cups a year

4)Promote sustainability – There’s no better way to promote positive change, than being the sustainability ambassador of your office! Advocate green habits by putting up recycling posters in the office and kitchens to remind your colleagues of the little actions they can take. Educate, inspire and raise awareness among your colleagues!

From everyone here at Team JUMP, here’s to a sustainable 2019!
