Prior to Green Rewards I was the founding chief executive of Trees for Cities, and I now chair the charity’s Board of Trustees. I also chair Viridien that provides UK employers with eCubed, an employee programme that serves to engage | educate | encourage environmentally sustainable behaviour; am a Managing Partner for Local Green Points LLP; am a member of the Forestry Commission’s Advisory Committee for London; and have advised a number of companies on green issues (eg CNN, Time Out).
I co-founded Green Rewards believing that less stick and more carrot was needed to incentivise people to adopt more sustainable lifestyles. Other previous positions include communications director at The RSA, relationship marketing manager for British Airways and english lecturer at Chongqing University in China. In early 2011 I co-founded Local Green Points LLP, a partnership between Green Rewards, Envirocomms and RWA that is working with councils to encourage households to reduce waste going to landfill by recycling and re-using more.
I live with my wife and two children in South West London, and I’m very lucky as I can walk to work – getting to meetings is a mix of bike, tube and trains.
I have been a broadcaster for 25 years now and currently host Magic FM's breakfast show. For the last 15 years I’ve also spent a lot of time on people's TV screens. I have been inducted into the UK radio Hall of Fame and was honoured to pick up the Arqiva Gold Award and Sony Gold for outstanding contribution to the UK radio industry. I now have three children and I’m concerned about our planet. That's one reason why I am so excited about Green Rewards as I believe incentivising people to live a greener life can only be a good thing.
I am delighted to act as ‘ambassador’ for London Green Points, which incentivises households to reduce what is thrown out, re-use as much of our stuff as possible, and recycle more. It’s also a great way to raise funds for local community projects and as patron for Cash for Kids and for Trees for Cities, I’ve seen first-hand the impact good community projects have on people’s lives.
I’ve been a lawyer for over 20 years and now run my own business, The Legal Director. I act as legal director for a number of small and growing businesses. I’m a keen triathlete and love to use my bike for commuting and running local errands. I have a young family and am concerned about what sort of world my son’s generation will inherit. I firmly believe that Green Rewards’ “carrot not stick” approach to incentivising green behaviour will help to encourage more people to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.
My favourite green reward is the SavaSocket – having a fully charged mobile phone is crucial to my business so it’s great to know I can leave it plugged in, use only as much electricity as I need, and not damage the battery.
Having worked with most things digital, I have been in the audiovisual and events industry for the past 5 years prior to joining the Green Rewards team. My last project, a sustainable eco-housing development with Igloo Regeneration, heightened my interest in being more environmentally conscious. I’m very lucky to be part of the team, contributing towards sustainable forward thinking in this digital age.
My favourite green reward is the Powermonkey Explorer – thanks to renewable energy my gadgets will never run out off battery again. The definition of innovative problem solving, this is modern sustainability at its best, pain free!
I really started to live more sustainably just before we had our son five years ago. As is often the case, when there’s a major change in your life, you review other aspects of your life-style and start to make changes. That’s exactly what I did and, though I’m far from perfect, those small changes have added up to some very healthy habits.
For me Green Rewards helps me buy sustainable products and experiences without having to think whether they are really sustainable. I also love the fact that we can earn green points and donate these to good causes.
There are so many interesting products and services available in the Green Shop, but if you asked me to pick a favorite, I’d have to chose the Eco Vouchers which are just perfect for birthdays and Christmas presents.
I specialise in corporate compliance and run a corporate service business in London advising the boards of businesses in a wide variety of sectors including shipping, energy, media and aviation. I am an associate of the Association of International Accountants (for whom I also act as a quality advisor) and a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators. I am also a director of a global energy trader.
I'm a keen sailor and love outdoor activities. I live in the countryside with my young family. This year I've become interested in bee keeping - I hope to be in a position to obtain my first colony soon!
After completing a degree in graphic design I've gained over 10 years experience in web design and print design, working in agencies and as an in-house designer, as well as working freelance for a variety of clients.
Green Rewards is a great company to be part of as it supports my views that changes around green behaviour need to happen but are not always as easy and practical as we would like. Green Rewards I am sure will help this.
I think my favourite green reward is the 'Teaching Urban Children About Nature' as it's fun, get's people involved, improves urban areas and leaves something for local people to enjoy for many years.
I run an environmental consultancy called Low and Behold, that specialises in all things related to local communities and their resources. It covers a wide range of areas, from helping a rural community develop the country's first community-owned anaerobic digester to supporting the formation of new social enterprises in urban areas. I am an active member and promoter of the third sector and partnership working. With its corporate partners, Low and Behold actively finds alternative uses for branded products that would otherwise go to landfill, from event T-shirts to marathon medals.
I contribute to the public debate on resource management, the third sector and the co-operative movement in the media and at public events. I like to think I combine on-the-ground experience with policy development at the national level. I am also a member of Glas Cymru, the only not-for-profit water company in the UK, a director of the BPR Group and an affiliate of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management.
As the managing director of Richmond Towers Communications, the longest established public relations consultancy in the UK, I am increasingly involved in our clients’ sustainability initiatives, particularly in food, energy and waste. Working with Green Rewards is a natural extension of this activity and I have been a keen supporter of the business since its launch. I am a member of the Chartered Institutes of both Marketing and Public Relations and worked as a journalist for 10 years, and have been a charity trustee in North Norfolk for the last five.
The Solar Monkey isn’t new, but it’s still my favourite gadget on the Green Rewards site. There’s a simple pleasure in knowing that my phone is driven by the sun!
Having graduated from Newcastle University in 2010 with a BA in Human Geography, my areas of interest focussed around sustainable development and its’ impact at both the community and the environmental level.
Being part of the team at Green Rewards has opened my eyes to innovative schemes that help to tackle problems on the environment and more importantly to help individuals and communities to adjust their social habits. By encouraging the adjustment of social habits one small step at a time, our environment can be preserved for our future generations to enjoy for many more years to come. Believe me, it’s rewarding!
Aside from the innovative gadgets, my favourite Green Rewards are the bioplastic jewelleries; cooked with natural ingredients, each piece is stunning and unique in its own rights. As plastic is a massive source of pollution, the creation of these biodegradable and environmentally friendly items allows us to be environmentally conscious without compromises!
