Last month we ran the Climate Week competition asking our members which animals face extinction as a result of climate change. Congratulations to Bryony from Powys who correctly answered that blue whales, polar bears, Bengal tigers and emperor penguins are in fact all facing extinction. Well done!

"I was overjoyed to find that I had won An Inconvenient Truth on DVD! Having always been interested in green issues, I had never got round to viewing the documentary. However 6 years after its release, the issues addressed are more pressing than ever. Everyone should view this, especially those who are ignorant to the effects of climate change. Thank you Green Rewards for giving me the chance to finally see the film, and share it with my friends and family!", says Bryony.

And if you’d like to win a prize, don’t forget to

Aims to involve those who have never composted before, the National Compost Awareness Week engages councils, retailers and community groups across the country holding initiatives and campaigns around issues such as home composting and the use of peat-free compost. Check with your local councils for more details on what might be happening near you.

‘Why do I need to compost when my waste will break down in landfill anyway?’

When waste is sent to landfill, air cannot get to the organic waste - as the waste breaks down it creates the harmful greenhouse gas methane, which damages the Earth's atmosphere. But when you compost the exact same waste above ground at home, oxygen helps the waste to decompose aerobically, resulting in next to no methane being produ

Earlier this week I read an article on calculating water footprint, which noted how often we overlook the steep water footprint embedded within the food production processes. Coinciding with World Water Day 2012, it sure seems our ideas of water preservation are still pretty basic.

 water footprint

Let’s face it - when we talk about ‘saving water’, our instinct leads us to the archive of water saving things to do. ‘Turning the tap off when brushing your teeth’; ‘ take shorter showers’ ; ‘water your plants with rainwater collected’...and the list goes on.

Congratulations to our Managing Director, Graham, on being recognised as a leading social entrepreneur and winning a prestigious UnLtd award, supported by the Millennium Awards Trust.

I’m honoured and delighted to have won this UnLtd award”, says Graham.  “My motivation is always to create change that has a positive impact on the environment and society, and if I can help steer just a small % of the multi-billion pound incentives and rewards industry into ‘good’ activities, be it support for charities or planet-friendly products,  then this will have significant environmental and ethical benefits.”

Veteran web-publisher RTG Publishing is launching  their London2012Games Room Finder service in the true spirit of the Olympics.

They have a nice little scheme matching Londoners who have a spare room or two - willing to welcome paying guests for a couple of nights or two during the 2012 Games - with the may thousands coming from all over the world looking for family based accommodation.

Whilst there is a lot of talk in the press about get rich- quick schemes, in reality these Games could be another version of 1948- when things were very tight. Not as bad as those post-war rationing years but certainly finacially restrained by the Euro crisis etc .Talk of making vast sums from these visiting tourists might actually deter many of them from coming .

We mention RTG here because they also publish the popular www.riverthames.co.uk and
