The first World Environment Day celebration was in 1972 – over the years, it has grown to become one of the main vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action.
This year, the theme for World Environment Day is Green Economy: Does it include you?
Defined by the UN Environment Programme, the concept of a Green Economy is one of low carbon, high resource efficiency and socially inclusive. Whilst the first part tackles the subject of what a Green Economy is, the second part aims to encourage you to find out more about the Green Economy - and whether you are being included in it in your country. With over 8,000 activities registered worldwide, attend or register your own activity to participate!
