Our team has selected 3 important eco-events happening in the weeks ahead. From relaxing bird-watching, to taking a step for Fairtrade, see how you can help create a more sustainable Planet Earth.
Big Garden Birdwatch | 28-29 January
The Big Garden Birdwatch aims to help the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds create a 'snapshot' of bird numbers in each region. This is important because some of our birds are disappearing in scary numbers! To participate, all you need is an hour, maybe a cuppa, a pen and some paper. For more information on how you can take part, visit Royal Society for the Protection of Birds’ website at http://www.rspb.org.uk/
Responsible Tourism Week | 13-17 February
Responsible Tourism Week is a free, five-day ‘unconference’ exploring down-to-earth applications of noble concepts including responsible tourism, conscious travel, the local travel movement and ecotourism with effective and inexpensive social media. Check out the Planeta website for up-to-date details on how you can participate.
Alternatively, have a chat about your next holiday with our responsible tourism partner Travel Matters who run the ethical Make Travel Matter campaign and see how you can help make a difference to the country you holiday in.
Take a step for Fairtrade – Fairtrade Fortnight | 27 February - 11 March
Thousands of people up and down the country will be taking a Step for Fairtrade in 2012. They’ll be baking cakes, holding coffee mornings, pledging to drink Fairtrade tea for a year, persuading their office to switch to Fairtrade beverages and taking a step to buy more Fairtrade cotton clothing. Last year more than 5,000 events took place around the UK. What will your step be for Fairtrade?
